Music: The Judds - Love Can Build a Bridge
I just found out from an old high school friend of mine that someone I graduated with was in a pole vaulting accident back in September, and was paralyzed. He was a popular guy in school, a jock, and definitely could be a jerk...but no one deserves that. I was friends with his step sister during high school, so I kind of knew him through her. Kind of. And another tragedy in the family; his step-dad, my friend's dad, was t-boned in his car while on duty (he's a cop) and barely survived the crash. I believe this happened this month because at Christmas church service Friday night, a prayer was said for him, but I didn't find out what happened until tonight that had us praying for him.
I think they're both going to be okay, but I don't know many details about either incident, just what my friend told me. Just makes me realize how fortunate I am to have never been in any kind of accident with all the stupid-slash-dangerous things I do, including skydiving, climbing up steep rock faces with no gear, crossing the street with my head down, driving down the Interstate at 90+ mph, travelling halfway across the country on an airplane by myself (to meet someone I didn't know in person), and probably tons of other things. I'm not exactly the most careful person in the world. Kinda puts a damper on things, and will probably make me think a little more carefully about the things I do...y'know?
Anyway, I hate to be a downer, but that was just shocking news to me, even though none of you know who I'm talking about...

That is pretty harsh news. Sorry that it has hurt you.
